Computer animation in a 3D space has become the most common animation style used globally. 3D animation uses several departments working together to create 3D models and character rigs which are manipulated and animated in a more realistic way and allowing for more complex visual effects. 3D animation was used primarily in commercials and shorter animated films until 1995 when "Toy Story" became the first feature-length movie and the industry began to hard pivot. With 3D animation outside of computer generated there is stop motion where figures are slowly moved in each frame and photographed to give the illusion of movement. This process while beautiful takes a lot of work and planning with hundreds of figures and props. There is another technique used in 3D animation which is motion capture where actors where sensors which record movements and transfers the data to the character rig. This gives a better sense of realism and more fluid movement of the characters that are animated. Though motion capture is used in some animations the most common use of motion capture is used in video games. Recently computer generated images (CGI) have been used in live action movies to verying degrees of success, generally bad.
